Mr. Joe Hargrave was born in Cow Island and was a resident of Morgan City, who passed away at the age of 86, June 19, 2010 at Teche Regional Medical Center.
Mr. Joe was a Funeral Director who lived a life of service to others and was the Founder of Hargrave Funeral Home.
Mr. Joe was a kind, compassionate man, a friend to all, and who never truly met a stranger.
Mr. Joe has been a licensed Funeral Director since 1950.
Joe with his wife Bernice by his side, have helped countless numbers of families say good bye to their loved ones.
Mr. Joe gave dignity and respect to every family he served.
Joe went beyond what was expected and created for them a celebration of a life well lived.
Mr. Joe was a World War II and Korean conflict veteran.
Mr. Joe served his country in the Navy and was attached to the Marine Corp as a Pharmacist Mate.
Mr. Joe was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, the VFW, American Legion, and The Marine Corp League.
Mr. Joe is survived by his wife of 66 years Bernice Hargrave, a son Joseph “Joe” Hargrave Jr. and his wife Frances of Hammond, his daughter JoAnn Driggers of Bayou Vista, his brothers, Joseph “Buster” Hargrave of Rayne, and Remy Hargrave of Las Vegas, NV. His sisters Ozite Trahan of Erath, Mavis Fishback of Maurice, Mary Lee Gallager of Maurice, Eugenia Hebert of Forked Island, and Patsy Stansbury of Rayne.
His is survived by grandchildren Wade and wife Marlo Hargrave, Shannon Hargrave and Kelly and her husband Matthew Becnel, and Harold and his wife Ramona Driggers. Also, he is survived by his great-grandchildren Tayla and Harold
Driggers Jr.,
Hayden and Holden Hargrave, and Logan Becnel.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Remy Hargrave and Alphonsine Feverjean Hargrave, his brothers Leon Hargrave, Eugene Hargrave, Odelon Hargrave, Weston Hargrave, Raymond Hargrave, and his sister Gloria Fay Hargrave Touchet.
Visitation was held Monday, June 21, 2010 at Hargrave Funeral Home from 6 pm until 9 pm. continued Tuesday, June 22, 2010 at Hargrave Funeral Home from 9am until dismissal at 10:30 am.
A mass of Christian Burial was held at Holy Cross Catholic Church at 11am. Followed by grave side Military Honors conducted by The East St. Mary Veterans Funeral Squad. Mr. Joe was laid to rest in the Morgan City Mausoleum. Mr. Joe’s family would like to invite to
a reception
at the Holiday Inn following the services.
